Community Involvement

Committed to Our Community

Vision, generosity, and commitment to the community are characteristics of people who become volunteers. Northwestern Mutual of Louisiana takes pride in volunteering. Steven Dugal and the members of Northwestern Mutual of Louisiana share this commitment to the community in which they live and work to make it a better place and to make a difference.

Each year, more than $250,000 is awarded to 25 non-profit organizations to honor the outstanding volunteer achievements of representatives throughout the country through Northwestern Mutual Foundation's Community Service Award (CSA) program. In 2008, Northwestern Mutual of Louisiana donated more than $32,000 in charitable efforts.

The Will S. Hornsby Community Service Award
Every year Northwestern Mutual of Louisiana chooses an employee to receive the Will S. Hornsby Community Service Award. This award is given to an employee that has been an active volunteer and role model in a charity throughout the previous year. The recipient of the award is also awarded $2,000 to be donated to their charity. For 2008, the Will S. Hornsby Award was awarded to the Young Leadership Council (YLC) on behalf of our own financial representative, Mason Curran, who served as President.

The Young Leadership Council is a non-profit organization that helps young professionals get involved in community volunteer projects. Northwestern Mutual of Louisiana helped sponsor the project called “A Streetcar Named Inspire”. This project was started after Hurricane Katrina to add some “color” and hope around the city. Local artists were chosen and asked to paint a streetcar. The streetcars are now placed throughout the city.

Children's Hospital
Again, Northwestern Mutual of Louisiana sponsored the Annual Bubba Gump Shrimp Company’s “Run Forest Run” to benefit Children’s Hospital. The money raised for this run went to helping the children in our community.
